10 guards injured as students attack security staff


LAHORE: (Tuesday, October 22, 2024): As many as 10 security guards of Punjab University have been injured in an attack by activists of some students groups outside Institute of Education and Research. The Punjab University spokesperson has said that the students attacked the university guards with glass bottles, stones and sticks which caused serious injuries to the heads and other parts of the body. He said that the before their rally, student organizations had assured that they would not involve themselves in provocative speeches. He said that some students gave their speeches according to the SoPs, but the last student started a very provocative speech. He said that the head of the student organization was immediately informed by the security staff about the provocative speech but he did not intervene. Upon which, the spokesman said, the guards took the student aside for making a provocative speech and meanwhile the students attacked the guards. He said that the students attacked the guards with glass bottles, stones and sticks and later the guards took action in their own defense. Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali took strict notice of the incident and strongly condemned the attack on the guards. The VC also issued instructions for the best treatment of the injured security guards. PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali has directed strict action against students involved in the hooliganism in the light of the eyewitnesses and videos. The spokesman said that some elements are trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the university.
