PU Department of History marks I-Day LAHORE: (Thursday, August 25, 2022): Punjab University Department of History and Pakistan Studies has organized a program regarding Independence Day. On this occasion Chairman Department of History & Pakistan Study Prof Dr Mehboob Hussain, Ghazi Muhammad Abdullah, President of Ibn-e-Khaldun Society Muhammad Yasir Khan, faculty members, students and employees were present. In his address, Dr Mehboob Hussain appreciated the Ibn-e-Khaldun Society organizers and student advisor Dr. Muhammad Altaf for successfully organizing the event. He discussed Pakistan's early constitutional issues and highlighted the significance of parliament and stressed the importance to make it a strong institution. Later, Ghazi Muhammad Abdullah, a senior faculty member of the department, was called on stage to share his thoughts. He briefly outlined the hardships that Indian Muslims had to face to achieve Pakistan. Furthermore, he advised the students to re-examine the question of Muslim identity and consciousness as a distinct nation that played instrumental role in the freedom struggle of India's Muslims. In addition, he also gave references to several historical records to clear up some of the common misunderstandings about Pakistan's origins. While explaining how we can solve the current issues of Pakistan, he emphasized the need to strength state institutions especially the parliament and judiciary. It started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. After that, a Sufi Qalam was sung by Khushal Khan, a student of BS History. Muhammad Yasir Khan, the president of Ibn-e-Khaldun Society, welcomed the respected teachers and students. He shared his thoughts on the challenges that Pakistan still faces after seventy-five years of its independence. He ended his talk with the singing of one of the finest poems of Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Afterward, Zara Shabir, a student of BS History, injected the spirit of patriotism by singing a national song with her sweet voice. Amal Islam, another student of BS History, spoke about Pakistan as envisioned by Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The main theme of her talk revolved around "Are We Free While Celebrating the 75th independence Day." In addition, a quiz competition was held to engage the students.
