PU VC calls for joint efforts to promote education


LAHORE: (Tuesday, November 28, 2023): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that we all have to campaign together to promote education for the development of the country. He was addressing the 3rd National Conference on Research Education (NCOR) organized by the Punjab University Institute of Education and Research on the theme of ‘Higher Education Institutions and Governmental Priorities’. On this occasion, Director Institute of Education and Research Prof Dr Tariq Mehmood Chaudhry, Chairman Department of Advanced Studies in Education Prof Dr Muhammad Shahid Farooq, Social Worker Raja Munawar Ali, researchers, academicians, faculty members and a large number of students were present. In his address, PU VC Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the development of higher education in Pakistan must be among the top priorities of any government. Unfortunately, he said, our society also did not give importance to education. He said that governments take credit for the creation of new universities but they should also allocate appropriate grant to run the universities. He said that PU was facing problems due to the lack of appropriate financial assistance received by the federal government for the last six years. He said that the promotion of knowledge and research is possible only when all the institutions, working for education, will play their role with full force. He congratulated the organizers for organizing the successful conference. Dr Tariq Mehmood Chaudhry said that knowledge is wisdom and mercy. He said that there is emphasis on acquiring knowledge in Islam. He said that knowledge is the source of success in this world and the hereafter. Raja Munawar said that acquiring knowledge should not only be for earning. He said that education is a shadow that provides ease to people. Prof Dr Shahid Farooq said that 18 experts are expressing their views in three sessions of the conference. He said that according to the vision of PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood to promote the national language in the country, research papers are also being presented in Urdu in the conference.
