PU Academic Council makes important recommendations


LAHORE: (Thursday, April 23, 2020): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad chaired an online meeting of Academic Council here on Thursday. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, deans, heads of departments and professors participated in the onilne meeting. The meeting decided and recommended to the Sydnicate for its approval to conduct defence of thesis of PhD candidates through online system. The meeting also decided that PhD candidates would present and defend their research proposals in the online meeting of Advanced Studies and Rsearch Board after following the procedure. The meeting also made important recommendations regarding online examinations of on campus student. The meeting agreed that it would be the first priority to conduct exam of on campus students in the end of June if situation of the country improved. However, it was also agreed to start working on a comprehensive system to conduct online exam of on-campus students in the end of August if the situation of the country did not improve due to coronavirus. In this regard, Prof Niaz Ahmad instructed the officials concerned to make foolproof arrangements to ensure secrecy of question paper, question bank, software security and smooth functioning of all relevant tools of information technology. The meeting also decided to conduct online exam of subjects of English, Political Science and Sociology of LLB first year (five years program) as per old scheme in the month of August. The Academic Council also formed quality assurance committee at departmental level to ensure quality of online teaching and learning. The meeting also decided to form technical committee at university level to assess and resolve technical matters regarding online education system. The meeting also agreed to ensure standards of accreditational councils in relevant subjects. The meeting instructed affiliated law colleges to ensure quality of education.
